WYSC requires that all players wear:
Players should bring a water bottle to practices/games, and younger age groups may like to bring along a healthy snack. ParkingThere has been a change in parking rules for Easy street/Balsam Park, Whistler. Following resident requests the RMOW have decided that there will be NO PARKING at all allowed on Easy Street and near Balsam Park. The only place we can park is Myrtle Philip school and then walk down to the fields. There will be ticketing and towing in effect so please park at the school. SmokingThe RMOW have enacted a bylaw the prohibits smoking within 25 metres of sporting events, playing fields and other recreational areas. Playgrounds and school property are now smoke-free zones, as are transit shelters. Coaching SystemAt WYSC after having our club reviewed by many high level coaches we have developed a system that falls into line with the overwhelming data now showing the many benifits of small sided play. We have chosen to scale down the game into smaller fields & fewer players on the field. Please see the following linked PDF document outlining the values of small sided games towards a better player for the future more complicated situations of 11 v11 soccer. PDF On the Advantages to Young Players of Small sided Soccer COACH TO PLAYER RATIOSPLEASE NOTE that at the U6 (kindergarten) age group we require a minimum ratio of ONE PARENT/ADULT on-field for every 5 children on-field. This is a mandatory policy of the WYSC. Should we find ourselves short on this ratio on any given day, some children will not be allowed to play .Soccer experience is not required, but for parents who are interested we can provide training. At the U7 to U9 (grade 1 to grade 3) age group we prefer a ratio of ONE PARENT/ADULT on-field for every 5 children on-field. Should we fall short of this ratio some children may not be allowed to play at the discretion of the coach. Want to make a real differance in the lives of children? Get involved! Teams of all ages benefit from positive parental participation. WYSC operates almost entirely through volunteer parent coaching and team management & support. Without such parental involvement the club cannot continue to exist. Please contact the administrator if you can get involved in any way. Sideline EtiquetteTo address the problem of over exuberant parents community soccer organizations use meetings, parent contracts and even club "minders" to "police" the parents plus many other ways to give the kids the opportunity of enjoying the game without too many (negative) distractions.  Please click this link to the NSCAA website for some excellent observations on the topic.
