Technical Director Hiring Announcement - May 5, 2009The Club’s executive is delighted to announce that Steve September has been contracted to provide us with his expertise as part time Technical Director. After 14 years of managing with volunteer parent-coaches, the Club is being taken to a new level, thanks to the generous support of the RMOW’s Community Enrichment Program. Over the next few months (with the strong possibility of an extension though to 2010), Steve will help with the Club’s vision of “organizing memorable soccer experiences”, through the core values of developing a passion for the sport, and by delivering quality in programs and organization. Elsewhere you can read about Steve’s background and his connection to Whistler. As Technical Director, Steve is mandated to focus on two main objectives. First, he will support the Club’s coaches in developing effective training plans & programs for the applicable age groups. Secondly, he will assist players (and coaches) in improving their personal soccer skills and their team play & game comprehension. Particular emphasis will be on the transition for both players & coaches, from small-sided soccer to 11-a-side full-sized field play. Steve has plans to bring in speakers (besides himself) to educate players, coaches and parents on nutrition, physical fitness, age-specific maturation, games strategies, and etiquette/laws of the game. He has two summer camps in the planning stages, and hopes to lay the ground work for more comprehensive training programs, both for indoor and outdoor soccer. Most of all, Steve will be part of our team which has the goal of ensuring that youth soccer in our valley is an exciting and fun sport to coach and play.
