Musings on one of Whistler’s most popular sports clubs on its 20th anniversary
The Whistler Youth Soccer Club means many different things to many different people. For some, it’s about playing a team sport in a town focused on individual sports. For others, it’s about coaching a son or a daughter and passing on a love of the game. For many kids it’s just about fun and friends and mid-week practices and weekend games.
As the Whistler Youth Soccer Club marks its 20th anniversary, and the club readies for its big gala dinner to mark the occasion, we asked a handful of people: What does the Whistler Youth Soccer Club mean to you?
Here’s what they said:
“The Whistler Youth Soccer Club is home. It’s beautiful chaos. It’s where my kids smile the most… seriously. Today it rained rivers, we waited an hour and a half for our team dinner and everyone is still all smiles. It doesn’t get better than this!”
- Jack Crompton, coach*
“I have Whistler Soccer Club to thank for my love of the sport. Growing up as part of the club, and playing the beautiful game in a beautiful town is something I will hold on to forever.”
- Harrison Shrimpton, former player*
“The soccer club is an opportunity for many children because soccer is a very accessible sport. It’s the opportunity to be a part of a team. To laugh together. And an opportunity to develop a skill that will allow them to play the game anywhere they go around the world in their future lives.”
- Andree Janyk, club founder, referee*
Celebrate your love of the game and the club at the 20th anniversary gala dinner on Saturday, Oct. 22.
